Nutella Empanadas

These Nutella empanadas are hands down the best empanadas out there. Granted, empanadas filled with meat, chicken or spinach are great, but when you put Nutella in anything it just takes it to the next level. I figured with the fall here and summer being over, we can all start working on our winter bodies and worry about our summer bodies in the spring. Don’t worry, I made them in the air fryer so you’ll only feel a little bit guilty about eating them!

What can you put inside Nutella Empanadas?

You can pretty much add any fruit of your liking that you enjoy eating with Nutella. We love bananas and strawberries at our home which is why I added them to the Nutella empanada filling this time around, but next time I think a coconut Nutella empanada is in order. The best part about cooking is that you can get creative and you don’t have to follow one exact recipe and you can add your own spin to it. Feel free to try adding some coconut, kiwi, apples, or anything else you like!

Do I have to air fry them?

No! Not at all. If you want to deep fry them, by all means go ahead. All you have do is heat up oil in a pot or in a deep fryer to 350 degrees and fry for two to three minutes on each side, until they are golden brown. Once they are slightly cooled, sprinkle some powdered sugar over them and serve! They are best when they are slightly warm, and the Nutella is still melted and gooey inside.

What dough do you use to make empanadas?

I normally get premade dough from Goya because it is just so much easier to make. I found that they have puff pastry dough for empanadas as well as the regular dough for empanadas. Either one would work just as well. I do like the puff pastry dough for empanadas for this recipe, because it does come out a little flakier in the air fryer than the regular one.
