Guava Apple Crumble Pie

The golden recipe for this Thanksgiving is my guava apple crumble pie! I promise you, you will never have a plain old jane crumble apple pie again! I love apple pies so every Thanksgiving I make one. It’s honestly my favorite dessert for this holiday along with my Pumpkin Creme Brulee (which the recipe can be found here.) Every year my uncle begs me to make an apple pie for Thanksgiving but this year I am switching it up. And I know you are all wondering how you make an American classic and add a Cuban twist to it and well it’s extremely easy! All you have to do is just add guava!

How to make the crumble for the Guava Apple Crumble Pie

Apple crumble pie

I typically always make a regular apple pie with a store bought crust, but I wanted to add an extra crunch to this pie, so I decided to make it a crumble pie. It’s honestly extremely easy and I think a lot less work than laying out the pie and folding the edges.

To make the crumble part, you combine flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and butter in a bowl. You place it in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes so it can slightly harden. Once you remove it from the freezer you should notice that it will break apart really easily when pulled. Now, crumble it all in the bowl and when your filling is ready and in the pie, you just sprinkle a good amount of crumble on top.

Do you have to make these pies miniature?

Apple crumble pie

Absolutely not! If you want to make a whole pie, just lay out your crust in a pie pan, place the filling inside, and the crumble on top. I would cook it in the oven for 45-60 minutes or until you notice that the crumble on top is becoming golden-brown. I personally like to make them miniature so it is a personal pie for everyone.

How do you make the filling for these mini Guava Apple Crumble Pie?

To make the filling you are going to first peel and dice two granny smith apples and two red and delicious apples. (If you are going to make a whole pie, I would suggest adding in another granny smith apple). After, dice your guava and melt it over medium-high heat. Once melted, add the cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, and brown sugar. Once that is incorporated, add your apples and stir to coat all your apples with the guava.

Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 12 pies

Ingredients

  • 1 box of store bought apple pie crust I prefer pillspurry pie crust

For the crumble

  • 2 ½ cups of flour
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • ½ cup of light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1 cup of salted butter melted

For the filling

  • 2 Granny smith apples
  • 2 Red and delicious apples
  • 11 oz 11 tbsp of guava paste (diced)
  • 3 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • tsp of nutmeg
  • tsp of allspice

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450F.
  • Take your store bought crust out and let it thaw.

How to make the crumble

  • To make the crumble, combine the flour, sugar, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter in a bowl and stir.
  • Place in the freezer for 20-30 minutes, while you make your filling and assemble the crusts.

Guava Apple Crumble Pie Filling

  • Peel and cut your apples. Slice the apples and then dice them into pieces. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan, add your diced guava and melt over medium-high heat, while continuously stirring. About 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to burn the guava.
  • Once melted, add your brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Stir to combine.
  • Turn off the heat and add the diced apples into the mixture and stir to coat all the apples with the guava sauce. Set aside.

Assembling the pies

  • Spray a muffin pan with nonstick oil.
  • Cut 24, 1×8-10 in. strips of parchment paper. Place two strips of parchment paper in an ‘X’ shape in each spot of the muffin pan. This will allow you to remove the pies when they are done easily.
  • Roll out your store bought pie crust (should be 2 in a box). Cut out 6, 4 in. circles from both pie crusts, giving you a total of 12 circles. With a rolling pin, roll each circle out to make it about 5-6 inches in diameter.
  • Place each circular pie crust into all the slots on the muffin pan. The parchment paper should be sticking out of the outer edges of each miniature pie.
  • Fill each pie with about ¼ cup of filling.
  • Remove the crumble from the freezer and crumble it in the bowl. Top each miniature pie with the crumble. Make sure to put a lot of crumble. You will have a lot of extra crumble and that’s okay.

Cooking the miniature guava apple crumble pies

  • Once your pies are prepared, lower the temperature in the oven to 350F.
  • Place the pies in the oven and cook for 25-30 minutes, until the crumble becomes golden-brown.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the pies to cool for about five minutes. After, remove each pie from the pan by pulling up on the parchment paper strips. Your pies should easily come out of the pan.
  • Allow to cool for another five minutes and serve with ice cream!

We love apple & guava so putting these together is genius. It was fun to make, and even more so to see the delight on everyones faces when they bit into these little treats. I used cupcake liners instead of parchment paper and they worked perfectly. My daughter sprinkled them with a little powdered sugar because why not! My mom already texted to ask me to please make them again.
