Since moving to New York, every once in a while I get my craving’s for delicious Flannigan’s Baby Back ribs and since you can only find them down in South Florida, I had to learn how to not only make baby back ribs, but also learn how to make them without a grill. Little did I know, how easy it is to make oven baked baby back ribs. It does take a while, but the wait is worth it and the process is fairly simple.
How do you make Oven Baked Baby Back Ribs?
First, remove the membrane film that is on the back side of the ribs. This allows the ribs to come out tender and fall right off the bone. To remove the membrane, slip a knife or you can use your nail, right under the membrane and gently lift. Once you have lifted enough that you can grasp it with two fingers, start peeling the membrane off.
Next, you are going to season the ribs. You can either choose a marinade or a dry rub. I personally love using my homemade Cuban seasoning on the ribs and dry rubbing them. I allow the rub to sit as long as I can before having to cook it, but if you don’t have the time that’s okay, they will come out just as good.
Then, wrap the ribs in aluminum foil so they are sealed shut. This allows the ribs to basically cook in steam while in the oven. A lot of people like to boil their ribs to do this, but this skips that process. After, you are going to place the ribs in the oven at 325F for two hours and let them cook nice and slow. Once done, remove the ribs, open the aluminum foil, and slather on your favorite barbecue sauce.
Now it’s time for the broiler. Turn your broiler on and cook the ribs on each side for about 5-10 minutes, until the barbecue sauce starts to caramelize. Then, remove and serve! That’s it! It’s a pretty easy process, but just takes some time.
