Happy National Ice Cream Day! I have been waiting for the perfect time to share this delicious dulce de leche ice cream recipe with you all and I figured today is the perfect day!
Dulce de leche is one of my weaknesses and reminds me of growing up in South Florida. It’s the perfect amount of sweetness. I didn’t know this but its made from condensed milk, which my dad used to use to make a float by combining it with Pepsi. This was probably why I was chubby, and still am, as a child.
Cream, delicious, and just sweet enough that you want to keep going for another bite. The best part of this ice cream is the crunch maria crackers inside of it that you get with each bite. It’s extremely easy to make and perfect for a hot summer day. Serve in a bowl or on a cone, I promise you can’t go wrong.
How Do You Make Dulce De Leche Ice Cream
First thing you do is combine the dulce de leche with whole milk, sugar, and vanilla inside a blender. Pulse to combine all the ingredients. After, add the heavy cream and pulse slightly once again. Don’t pulse for too long, just a few seconds, to avoid the mixture becoming too frothy. Strain the mixture into your ice cream churner so that any bubbles on top don’t go into the churner. Churn the ice cream for 20 minutes.
Once the ice cream is frozen, at the 20-minute mark, crush a pack of maria crackers and combine in into the ice cream. Make sure to leave a few crackers to top the ice cream off. Place in the freezer, and freeze for about 3 hours. Serve with a topping of dulce de leche. Enjoy!
If you don’t have an ice cream churner, check out this page by Kitchn, for different methods on making ice cream without a machine.
