It’s Labor Day weekend and I am sure we will all be drinking so this watermelon sugar shot is the perfect way to get your holiday weekend started! Light, refreshing, sweet, but it does pack a bunch so be careful. With watermelon season in full affect, I wanted to make a refreshing shot with them.
What liquor goes well with a Watermelon Sugar Shot?
I have made this shot with rum, vodka, and tequila and all of them taste great with watermelon. My wife prefers the rum version, but one of my friends prefers vodka. It’s honestly all up to you and which is your favorite. You won’t go wrong with any of these choices, I promise!
How do you know when a watermelon is ripe?
So, if you are like me, I don’t really buy whole watermelon all the time so when I went to Whole foods, I was wondering which one I should buy out of the pile of watermelon in front of me. I first decided that I wanted to buy the seedless watermelon so that narrowed my search down. Next, I needed to know which one was ripe enough for this drink.
Well there are several ways to know when watermelons are ripe. I think the three easiest ones are these. First, search for the pale/yellow part of the watermelon. This is the part that was touching the ground when the watermelon was growing. The paler this part is, the riper the watermelon has become. Second, is giving the watermelon a little knock. When the water melon is ripe you will hear a hollow sound when you knock on its skin. Finally, pick up the watermelon! The heavier the watermelon, the more ripe it has become.
Do I have to drink this as a shot?
Absolutely not!! This shot is easily converted to a drink. Just pour It in a glass full of ice and top it off with some soda water. Or just skip that part and drink it straight!
