Funny story about avocados, I always hated them until I started dating my wife back in 2012, which is when I can say my life truly changed. Not because I started dating my wife, but because she introduced me to avocados! See, technically I met my wife in 2011 and it took her several months to convince me to date her. She will tell you a different story, but I assure you my version is the truth.
Avocados, or as us Hispanics call them, aguacates, is a fruit from the heavens. When they are perfectly ripe, they are nice creamy and smooth. There are many types of avocados but growing up we mainly ate the Choquette or Hall avocados which mainly grow in Florida. These two types are watery in nature, which is the reason I think I wasn’t a fan of them growing up. My wife, Nilda, is the one that introduced me to the Hass avocado which is by far my favorite. I love it so much that one summer, I believe it was the summer of 2013, I got massive gastritis from eating it so much since I love to put lime on them. I also became extremely obsessed with guacamole that summer and would have it basically every day.
Abuela Nena and Abuelo Kiko had a huge mata de aguacate (avocado tree) in their backyard when I was younger and I can clearly remember helping my grandfather cut them down from the trees. My grandma would prepare them with aceite (oil), vinegar and salt, a combination that I was not a fan of when I was growing up. I was more of a fan of Chef Boyardee and anything drenched in ketchup (still am to be honest). Maybe that’s why I went through so many years not eating avocados. Anyhow, now they are defiantly something we eat weekly in our home and they are always on sale at Whole Foods, since Amazon bought them which is great because each Hass avocados can cost you a pretty penny when they are not on sale.
This recipe is a simple and basic recipe but since it is something that we eat regularly and a staple in a Hispanic household, I figured I would share it with you all.
Equipment
- Knife
- Lime/Lemon squeezer
Ingredients
- 1 Hass avocado (riped)
- 1 tbsp Lime

Instructions
- Cut the avocado in half and remove the seed.
- Cut the avocado into slices while in the skin. Using a spoon, carefully scoop out all of the avocado and place on a plate in a line.

I made this the other day and it was so bueno.
